ARTOWN July 1-21
Reno celebrates visual and performing arts July 1-31, 2006 with more than 200 performances and exhibits taking place around town. Community involvement is encouraged and some of the scheduled events include art exhibits, concerts and ballets.
Hot August Nights
1950s and ’60s come alive
This “blast from the past” allows baby boomers to relive the “happy days” and it provides an opportunity for those who didn’t experience the 50’s and ’60s firsthand to enjoy the era.
During these five days of yesterdays, cars are “cherry” and cruisin’ is “too cool.” More than 700,000 people will flock to the event.
5,000 classic cars are registered for the event from 36 states across the nation, including Alaska, Massachusetts and Florida and three Canadian provinces. Californians will bring over 2,500 cars for this event. Nevadans have over 1,500 cars entered and registration from the Pacific Northwest is strong with over 280 from Oregon and over 220 cars from Washington.
Cars are the stars and rock ‘n roll rules through dozens of concerts — most of them free — throughout the event.
There is a prom night, where you can take your sweetheart and dance the night away. Controlled cruises, where you can watch rolling Rembrandts on display and drag races where you can really see the cars strut their stuff. Witness a Show-n-Shine, go to a Swap Meet, visit the Nostalgia Faire and the Cool Car Showroom.
Celebrating classic cars, poodle skirts and musical hits of the 50s and 60s for over 17 years, Hot August Nights kicks off another celebration July 29 – August 6, 2006. Car lovers of all ages come out in full strength to participate in the week long event.
