News on the kids.

The girls have the rest of the week off school so we have been chilling at home. I’m making plans for the Lay Family reunion and trying to get an Itinerary together.

Hailey is thriving. She is above her class in Math an Reading so much that she (in 2nd) grade is doing division problems on the computer that she has to learn on her own because it’s not on the teachers curriculum. So Hailey gets frustrated that she’s getting 60% and not 80% on her scores. If she gets 80% she moves on. She earns a lot of candy from her teacher for completing all the levels she has been completing. She wants to keep moving on and learn so badly. I worked on her Collecting skills. now, instead of collecting junk off the playground, she earns and collects money so she can buy jewelry for her collection. Much better plan. no more bottle caps and foam BBs.

Sierra has been having a hard time hearing since February. I took her in for hearing tests and she Failed the Tuning fork test with an ear that seemed fine while the other passed and it had Fluid in it. After the Sound and speech hearing test she had a few drops below normal in pitches she was hearing and the tester lady told us to keep doing what we were doing with her. Speaking loudly, Repeating ourselves, and having the TV volume at 34 instead of 15. I didn’t know how much longer we all could take it. I think some of her speech is struggling because of the fluid. She speaks in a higher pitched voice like a baby vice more than she should. So we are getting tubes put in her ears June 18th. The surgery takes 1 hour, she will be asleep for it and the affects are immediate. Then within 8-12 months they will fall out on their own.

Zach is allergic to Peanut Butter
Last week I took Zach to an Allergist to test for allergies since he got hives the one time I gave him a PBJ sandwich. He tested Positive for Peanuts – which is an allergy that isn’t likely to be outgrown. . .so we all have to be careful not to give him peanut things. Unless we have benadryl, dymatapp, or his Epi-pen Jr nearby. Yes, the Dr. gave me a prescription for an Epi-Pen just in case his reaction ever becomes severe enough that his breathing is compromised. He was fine with just hives on his skin. . .maybe he can eat it. . .as long as he just puts it in his mouth. . .hum. . . I should test it after I fill his epi-pen prescription. And I want to try cooked peanut things like PB Cups, Recess Pieces, etc. Zach is actually in the 50% for his Noggin. 10th %tile for height and 20th for weight. Yep he’s a brainer just like his dad!

Aurora is getting bigger. She’s probably a little over 10 pounds now. Her Smile sometimes makes a little laughing sound behind it. She’s still pretty tiny for a 2 1/2 month old. But that’s just how our babies are. they stay around the 5th and 10th percentiles for just about everything. She’s still struggling with constipation. . .as all my girls have. Only hers seems worse. She just doesn’t poop. It’s nice to have to change wet diapers only but the vaporous gas the eliminates form the little soul is just unnatural. I’m going to move on to prune juice – when I remember to pick it up and see how that fairs. I hold Aurora every minute that I can. I’m pretty sure I’m spoiling her. I think she knows it too.

Mr. Mischevious

I sent the kids outside to play in the sand that I transfered from the cul du sac to the back yard so I could make dinner.

Hailey and Sierra decided they needed to water it. Zach decided he needed to sit in it.

Boy did he have a lot of fun.

And So did I when I got to hose him off with cold water =)

Whirlwind weekend.

Nathan wanted to get in the car and go someplace. He never told me where so I made a ton of decisions – he wasn’t too thrilled with, but came along anyways.

Thursday we went to visit grandma and grandpa out here. Then we headed to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the “Old West Days” We ended up having a pretty bad time. By Friday night we were ready to leave. So we left Saturday at 9:38 am after we ate breakfast. I did enjoy the mountains, shopping at Eddie Bauer, the drive, the hotel was quaint with pine log furniture and free breakfast(the 49er Inn). The Cowboy Shootout – (musical) wasn’t that great but it was about the only thing we did that anyone appreciated. Sierra said, “The Shootout was Awesome!”

We headed home dropped Nathan and Zach off, and met LeeJoe and Kim and their 5 girls and stayed at the local amusement park until it closed at 10PM grabbed groceries for the crew and got home at 11pm. Tucked kids in bed and made plans for Sunday.

Sunday we slept in, had scrambled cheesy eggs, and for lunch Nathan made strawberry smoothies for all of us. Then we headed to my Grandma and Grandpa Lay’s grave site in Taylorsville, UT and placed flowers for Memorial Day. We said a prayer around the grave and drove by his old house. The we headed to Temple Square in Salt Lake City and had a popsicle picnic, visited the Church History Museum, went into the Tabernacle building and I took my 4 kids back to the car to head home and make dinner. LeeJoe and Kim arrived an hour later and we ate Chicken Parmesan, fancy cashew green beans with nutmeg, cheesy garlic toast and talked then watched some TV.

Monday we went to the Hogle Zoo in SLC. It was very packed. The kids all seemed to have a good time and saw all kinds of animals. It’s actually a Really Good Zoo! We got home at 4 and saw LeeJoe and family off. Then headed to Grandma and Grandpa Stouts for Memorial Day BBQ with Suzie’s family and Aunt Kathy. I don’t sleep in cars but I got about 5 minutes on the way to their house because I had done so much in the past 5 days with 4 kids. Nathan went to help Uncle Aaron Monday with his basement because Ethan was born and they are still working on and office so Ethan can have a bedroom upstairs. I still need to go meet him. He looks cute in his picture and everyone says He’s almost the same size as Aurora at 2 months. I can’t wait to meet him.

Aurora You Are 2 Months Old

Aurora you are such a pleasure to have around the house. At 2 months old you are very peaceful and you smile when we smile at you. You seem very happy. You seem happy to be on the earth.

You still sleep quite a bit. I think you are up about 4-5 hours total throughout the day. At night you wake up 2 times to eat and usually you fall right back to sleep in my arms. You sleep in the recliner with your head toward the back, almost like you are still being held in my arms. you love the warmth of that little corner of the chair.

When you turned 7 weeks old I noticed a change in your weight and how alert you were. I could tell my baby had grown seems as if it was overnight. At this age, overnight is like a lifetime and you do change every minute. I hate it. I feel like you are already slipping away from me and you have only just been born.

Aurora, you are going to have trouble going to the bathroom as your sisters before you did. I feel so sorry for you. I think you have it worse. Yous haven’t pooped on your own in over a month- the doctor and nurse were both concerned too. Aunt Suzie taught me to stimulate your bum with a q-tip and the doctor agrees. However yesterday after I helped things along YOU STARTED to “work” again. You shot a pile of slime harder and faster than any kid I’ve ever known – I’ll blame the doctor for that one because he told me to give you some juice everyday. So you got apple juice and it worked a miracle, your blanket, my shirt, pants, the bedspread, and the carpet can all thank the doctor for his magic cure. I’ve always been so careful to place a diaper under the one being changed in case of mishaps like these, and I did with this one, but I held your legs up a little and wasn’t paying attention as the phone was ringing and daddy was answering it. We both witnessed the power of your being!! I stood there shocked amazed and covered in yellow slime. You cried while I tried to figure out where to start with the cleaning, including a second bath for the day. It’s OK though. My parents told me that when I was a baby I was sitting on my Dad’s lap at church and he ended up covered in a yellow mustardy poop. At least I wasn’t out in public. So I thank you for that.

SMilestones

Besides smiling, you follow me with your eyes and you make some small cooing noises when you are happy and smiling. You get to lay on your belly once in a while and are still having a little trouble raising your head up but by 4 months you should have that down to a science. You can drink out of a bottle and nurse without getting confused. You try to focus on things far away. You respond to light and dark. When you hear me you turn your head toward me to find out where the noise is coming from. You are getting better at holding you head still. You can hold small objects in your fingers by grasping though you don’t really care if you have a toy in your hand or not, you are still too young.

You weigh 9 pounds 8 ounces. And though most babies are born at 21″ tall, You at 2 months still have yet to hit that mark. You are a mere 20″ which puts you are 5% for your age. It’s normal, you are a Stout. Your head circumference is 14.5 which is the 10th% And you weight is about 30%.

Your super cute skinny little chicken legs are getting chubby. It’s your Moms favorite thing about newborns. Now they are getting round and rolly and Mom is starting to miss the newborn legs. It all happens so fast.

You had 5 Immunizations at your 2 month visit. 4 shots and one oral. The Rotovirus immunization was a new one for me to see. they gave it to you with a plastic container that you drank from. . .weird. The 4 shots made you cry. But you were relieved by Mommy holding you and nursing you.

2 mornings ago you rubbed your right, ring finger with your thumb so much through the night, that you created a blister with a callus on it. It looked so sore and when I took you to the Doctor he worried about it getting infected so you are on your first antibiotics to prevent and infection in your little 2 month old finger. When you clinch your fist your thumb rubs your finger and you hurt yourself.

You hair is red like your sisters. we thought it would be a lot darker but it seems to be the same to me. Daddy thinks it is a little darker (brunette for sure!) He’s in denial. I just see red. But night fiery bright red. It’s not quite copper maybe just a tinge darker than copper. It is straight for now and really really short.

We love you desperately. We are glad you are in our family.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today I was greeted at 6:30 AM in the morning by Aurora fussing for breakfast. I was able to take a little nap later in the morning before Nathan and the girls woke me up with breakfast in bed; Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream… yum! Strawberry smoothies too!

The girls gave me gifts they made in school; coupon flowers good for making beds, free hugs, setting the table, and cleaning rooms. Nathan got me a “Bears in Chairs” and a couple of charms for my bracelet, a baby shoe for Aurora and Zach. Nathan also made dinner, cleaned up the house, and took care of the kids. At Church I got a geranium flower. How nice!

It was a beautiful, wonderful day of being spoiled rotten! I loved it.

Kids were up at 6:30 am. After feeding them and taking my shower,I decided to lay on the sofa with Aurora. I stayed there with her while the girls played Nintendo in the basement and Zach hung out with them until his nap time at 11:00 and I slept on the sofa til 1. Well. . .I think I slept.

Then I made lunch for everyone and told the girls that when they were out of their PJs we could go fishing. Nathan worked on some elevator shelves for the garage and I let the girls climb on them and hoisted them to the ceiling.

We are going to load up the shelves and see what else there is to finish up today.
