Blogger didn’t work for days!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Devanie @ 5:08 pm

For about a week blogger hasn’t worked for me so we are missing a huge section of my life and the misc kids projects.

Here is a Quick Synopsis since I have VERY little time again.

I had an $800+ Jewelry sales weekend.

I went to Las Vegas for “Time Out for Women” WHICH I THOUROUGHLY ENJOYED!!!!! I saw Cirque De Sole’ BEATLES show LOVE, had lots of spritual meeting a and some wonderful revelations for my relationships. I drove and enjoyed talking with my Mother in Law. We went to the Luxor and I got a pearl (out if it’s shell) set in a sterling silver ring, that I will always remember the trip by =)

Nathan really got to see what mothering was like. But I’m still not sure he realizes yet, why it escape into all my sales endeavours – It’s becasue it’s a lot funner for me than changint POOPY diapers, PLUS For years and years I have been told to take time out for myself – and my time out is Stydying bargains and tryiing to make profit from them. Since I won’t be going back to college anytime soon. So it’s All my time out and I’m learning a whole TON!

Sierra and I made caramel apples for everyone to “Celebrate the beginning of FALL!”

I have a bunch of pictures to posr from a Letterboxing trip with Mike’s family.

I had my Pampered chef Kick off show – invited over 450 people and so far got 3 orders, thanks to Alice, Grandma, and Sierras teacher. That was the only push for pampered chef I’ll be shelling out. I mostly did it for the $620.00 in product for $105.00 and now I have some duplicate and unnecessary items that I’m happy to sell at a discounted rate.

Nathan and I got to go on a date and see Eagle Eye. I thought it was OK, maybe too many carried out fight/chase scenes but that’s pretty much what the movie was all about. Nathan was able to easily nit pick unbelievable happenings like Zooming Traffic Cams that would detct and see a persons face in the car. and more.

Zach’s been in for 2 Xrays now and the doc says he should start healing in a few days and NOT to walk on his broken leg. It’s a spiral fracture facing down that could possibly slip out of place and not heal quickly.

I went to an ENT Specialist and decided to get my Tonsils out on Oct 20th – It’s gonna be 3 weeks of intense pain, but I need to get rid of the stinky breath, sore throats, post nasal drip and crud pockets.

I have been babysitting at the gym 4 days a week and trying to get long workouts in(trying) I had a bad weekend and downed a LOT of chocolate milk though – I should just keep that yummy stuff out of the house!

We have a delivery coming today that will complete out rec-room in the basement – Thanks Grandpa!

Whenever I can I get on the internet and sell something on ebay or shop for dresses for the boutique and check my emails.

The kids and I have been studying State capitols on the swingset – with an under-dog push as the reward for getting the capitol right. Zach’s tests are getting ABCs and 123s in order and even with a cast on LOVES to get under-dogs
Aurora loves when I help her down the slide.

I’ve been playing Kickball with them, we had a movie pizza party and watched land before time, I’ve been out around the neighborhood trying to help do the school fundraiser and letting the girls earn prizes for the fundraiser. Wrapping paper, gidts, shacks, cookie dough and magazine subscriptions – for cheap! they are both well over $50 and they already got 1 prize. It’s a good learning tool for missionary work for them. =)

Treading Water

Filed under: Uncategorized — Devanie @ 2:03 am

If I had written this blog 24 hours ago, the title would have been “Swimming Like A Champ” but 24 hours can make a big difference! Twenty-four hours ago everyone was healthy, sleeping well, and in good spirits.

We spent yesterday evening with Uncle Mike and Aunt Denise and had a blast as usual. Lots of good food, fun toys to play with, and Mike and I got to play a game of Starcraft. We got a late start home and didn’t get everyone into bed until a little after 10 PM. I figured that since they all slept well the previous night, and they were getting to bed late, I’d have an even better night than before. WRONG!

Zach woke up at 2:00 AM. His bed, clothes, pillow, and even hair were soaking wet. I know I changed his diaper just before I put him to bed, so I figured he must have REALLY had to go! As I was changing his bed sheets, clothes, and cleaning him up I noticed that his diaper was completely dry. How does that happen?!

I got him back to sleep and as I was just starting to doze off again the heavens opened and a huge rain, thunder, and lightning storm started. It usually takes me 30-90 minutes to get to sleep normally. With constant flashes of light and crashes of thunder, it takes me even longer. So about 4:00 AM I finally fall asleep only to wake up at 5:00 AM with Zach and Aurora again. Did I mention I went to sleep a little after midnight? Ugh… 3 hours of sleep total.

Soon after I was up with Zach and Aurora, Sierra called me downstairs to tell me she wasn’t feeling well. I thought maybe she was just hungry or something, but a few minutes later she threw up. So much for Irish dance lessons today.

Later that morning I started to pull down our canopy. The wind has been picking up and it’s time to take it down for the year. As I grabbed a handful of canopy I also grabbed a stack of wasps, at least a dozen of them. They were as surprised as me, apparently, because they didn’t have time to sting me… just fly in every direction. I fell back off the ladder in surprise and ran into the house.

Later, equipped with wasp killer, I slew at least three dozen wasps. I then started to take down the canopy again only to be surprised two more times by another large group of wasps. They were all just laying grouped together moving very little… reproducing, maybe? I finally got the canopy down this evening, but I have decided to throw it away; it just seems to lure unwanted pests.

Joe and Aaron invited us down to the Living Seas Aquarium for some fun. So we packed up and drove down to meet Joe and Aaron for lunch at McDonalds. Big mistake. Zach watched every other kid in the place climb around on the play place and wanted to join in. Obviously, that’s difficult in a cast… so we had a minor meltdown while we tried to calm him down.

That done, we drove over to the Living Seas Aquarium. It’s a neat little place, although a bit pricey for the limited amount of displays. The girls LOVE the sting ray exhibit where you can actually pet the sting rays. Hailey also had a lot of fun petting a sea cucumber (yuck!). Unfortunately, Zach (who was stroller-bound) and Aurora couldn’t see any of the displays. So I spent most of the time carrying one or both in my arms so they could see everything. Ouch!

After the aquarium, we went to Toys’R Us for fun. I bought everyone a toy. We then went to the grocery store to get some goodies for a football party we are having tomorrow. That might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Zach, Aurora, and Sierra started to meltdown.

We rushed home and I made dinner. Spaghettios, mandarin oranges, and orange Kool-aid… an “orange” dinner. Sounds delicious, right? Well, maybe for every kid in the world except Zach. He didn’t want to have anything to do with it. In hindsight, he was probably just very tired, but he used up the last of my patience and I exploded. I DEMANDED that he eat at least one spaghettio or I would throw away his new train and put him to bed. He wouldn’t do it, and as promised, I threw away the train and put him to bed. I’m a terrible dad. Don’t worry, I already fished out the train and will return it to him tomorrow.

I tried to get Aurora into bed but she wouldn’t sit still for two minutes while I changed her diaper and got her dressed in pajamas. My temper was boiling and she just kept laughing and crawling away. I snapped and yelled at her and that just made her start crying and screaming. Everything was going downhill really quick.

At 8:01 PM I got everyone in bed and I was going to watch a favorite TV show and then go to sleep myself. WAS being the operative word. The girls crashed my party and asked to sleep in my room. They are afraid of the lightning and thunder outside and I’m feeling too guilty from my earlier explosions to send them packing. So I’m blogging instead while they (hopefully) fall asleep.

So for now I’m treading water and waiting for Devanie to come home and save us all. I’ll be very happy to see her tomorrow. I told her before she left that I could be a great “mom” for a day. It was the day-after-day thing that I couldn’t do. I just don’t have the patience to do this long-term. It requires a different set of skills that I just haven’t developed.

Come home soon, Devanie.

Our little invalid

Filed under: Uncategorized — Devanie @ 7:33 pm

Well, Zach is still having a rough start with his broken leg – as area we.

He’s started getting off his toddler bed and scooting around on his bum. it’s funny now Aurora will get down on the floor and scoot around the same thinking she should be doing it too. Maybe she has a lot of Empathy like her Daddy.

It feels as though Aurora is the toddler now and Zach is the baby. I have to carry him into stores, the house, Dr. Appointments etc and Aurora is the one walking. Sometimes I take the stroller but today when we went to get Zach’s weekly follow-up X-Ray I just carried him to his appointment. and Aurora walked in her squeaky shoes through the waiting room doing her open hand side to side wave and smiling at everyone. She became the star of the waiting room. we’d go in the play area for kids and she’s go walking out waving, squeaking(in her shoes, and smiling, thus putting smiles on EVERY ONES faces in the room. She’s come play with Zach and I and then repeat her visitations and once in a while blow kisses to the audience. She was adorable, I had to make her stop and just hang out in the kids Corner so the squeaking wouldn’t become annoying.

Aurora is a sweetie. When I – or anyone sits on the floor by her she immediately believes that you have purposely sat there to make a seat for her. If kneeling she will sit her chubby bum on your knees, or if you sit cross legged she will sit in your lap. She loves to Hug, and cuddle saying ooooohhhhhhhh and then rest her head on you. If you lay down she immediately thinks you are a horse and climbs up and bounces and jumps on you front or back.

She’s the sweetest kisser. She is polite and always keeps her mouth closed. She leans forward making a mmmm sound then leans back and finishes it with a pppph kiss sound.

I love that she loves to Cuddle.

on another note.

Zach has become quite the “DIVO” in Daddy terms. it’s hard to understand what he says and he for a long time was SCREAMING to get what he wanted and SCREAMING if things weren’t perfectly perfect, like his blanket on him or- how full his sippy cup was. We’ve had to nix that behavior by telling him he needs to ask nicely and not scream. I was explaining this to him the otter day and I told him that when he screams at people to get things for him it’s mean and that he just needs to ask nicely if there’s something he wants or needs. He was in a bad mood and proceeded to say in a screaming voice, ” NO, MOM, YOU’RE” MEAN”, then he hit me. so now I don’t cater to his every will and I am not mean I just ask him to speak nicely to get what he wants. Last night it worked wonderfully. At bedtime I put him in bed and he’s call for me a nicer voice and tell me the light was too bright in his room, then later he wanted the fan back on, and later he got out and scooted down the hall to our bedroom to tell me he needed a new sippy cup and later said Thank You for it, without any prompting! It’s not always super nice he still has his screaming moments, but it;s getting better.

That’s what’s up with our Invalid and in 4 days, out 18 month old baby toddler.

Zach’s Broken Leg: Update

Time for a quick update on Zach’s leg. He broke his right leg below the knee. It’s a spiral fracture and should heal quickly. For X-ray enthusiasts and Zach’s future viewing pleasure, here is a picture of his broken bone.

And here is a picture of a not-so-happy Zach with his splint. He was stuck in bed for a couple of days because every time we started to move him he would cry out in pain. I moved his bed from downstairs back into my office (his old bedroom) the same night he broke his leg. So for a couple of days he watched Thomas the Train and Tom and Jerry videos on one of my computers while we kept a steady stream of his favorite foods flowing into the room. All of the girls (Devanie, Hailey, Sierra, and even Aurora) kept constant vigil and catored to his every whim.

We thought it was going to be several days before Zach could get a cast put on. The ER doctors originally told us it would be a few days before the swelling went down enough for a cast. We were relieved when (after much persistence) Devanie was able to get an appointment on Monday to have a cast put on. Here’s Zach picking out the color for his cast. He actually wanted purple, but Devanie was worried what I might think and talked him into light blue.

Devanie said they had to wait for a while at the Doctor’s office before they would see him for the cast. So they sat in the waiting room with Zach sitting on Devanie’s lap. Zach didn’t want to watch TV and instead pointed to the play area where they have all of the kids toys. Devanie pushed Zach over in the stroller, but all of the toys were on the floor. Even after Devanie put some of the toys up on a bench so Zach could play with them, he had trouble reaching them. Devanie said it was very sad. How do parent’s of handicapped children cope?

Here’s Zach with his new cast. We were hopeful after talking to a few people that after Zach got his cast that he would be able to walk (or at least limp) around in it. Unfortunately, Zach doesn’t have a walking cast. They were worried that a walking cast would slip off Zach if the swelling went down further or if he tried to push it off, so he got a cast that goes above his knee to hold it in place. So no walking for Zach, at least not in the near future.

For the time being, Zach has made our recliner in the living room his home. He can watch TV from there and the rest of us can keep an eye on him and give him lots of attention while still getting things done. Both Devanie and I feel so bad for him that we have resigned to giving him almost anything he wants including popsicles, candy, and yes, even McDonald’s french fries. I know, we signed the pledge to boycott McDonald’s for promoting gay marriage but if it gets Zach to smile like this… then it’s worth a temporary lapse.

Our TRIP see you next FALL

I feel so bad like it’s my fault Zach’s leg is broken, after all I was carrying him back to bed and I slipped and his leg was behind me and I Squished him with my tubby fat butt, my bum hurt because it was breaking Zach’s leg as we slid down the stairs (6-8) together.

It is very very SAD! I’ve never broken a bone in my life, until last night, and it was not my bone it was my sons. I’m Crying now. Mike and Denise called and were surprised by the news but were so sweet in offering to help. Aunt Kathy also asked if we needed her here she’s and RN (with personal experience)and knows about breaks herself.

It’s just so sad. I feel bad and guilty. I’m pretty tired too.

Nathan keeps trying to reassure me it was an accident and it’s not my fault because Zach KEEPS getting out of bed.

I too a ton of vitamins and pills to lift my mood a little bit ago. I hope I don’t cry all day!

Thyme Chicken.

You buy a whole chicken or just chicken breasts.

Put Seasonings on it
Thyme, seasoned salt, pepper, and if it’s a whole chicken bake it at 275* for 4 hours Over some cut potatoes- it will fall off the bones – YUMM-O if it’s chicken brests you can bake it however you like with tin-foil over the top I usually do 350* for 35 min (over cut potatoes)but it would be a lot softer cooked lower and slower – it’s still DANG GOOD.
